Project Overview
River City 1 is part of a four-phase development located in Toronto’s Corktown neighbourhood. Originally an abandoned industrial area, the River City community was the first development to kickstart the revitalization of the West Don Lands. Urban Capital, partnered with Montreal-based Saucier + Perrotte Architects, conceived the development of the new community as part of a design competition. The River City community has been the recipient of multiple awards, including an OAA Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Excellence and the Toronto Urban Design Award of Merit. All buildings are LEED Gold certified.
River City 1 is comprised of two angular, matte black buildings – 16-storeys and 7-storeys – and contains a combined 350 units, 2 levels of above-ground parking, and ground floor retail. The two buildings are connected by a bridge that extends from the 3rd floor. Building amenities include fitness facilities, indoor pool, and outdoor courtyard. A cobblestoned and landscaped woonerf was built by the city to accommodate pedestrians, bicycles, and cars.
